Melissa (Moe) Hagman, MD, MACP

Melissa HagmanDr. Hagman is a native of Boise, Idaho. She graduated from the College of Idaho with a B.S. in Zoology and then attended the University of Washington (UW) School of Medicine for her Medical Doctorate. She did her internal medicine residency at the UW spending her first and third years in Seattle and her second year at the Boise VA Medical Center. Dr. Hagman did a chief resident year at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle.

She then joined the faculty as a hospitalist and later a board-certified member of the Hospice and Palliative Medicine team. In 2008, Dr. Hagman became an Associate Program Director for the UW Seattle Internal Medicine Residency. She moved back to Boise in 2011 to be an Associate Program Director at the UW Boise Internal Medicine Residency, before becoming the Program Director in 2016. She is a hospitalist and palliative care consultant at the Boise VA Medical Center.

Dr. Hagman is a nationally renowned medical educator. She is the immediate past Governor of the Idaho Chapter of the American College of Physicians (ACP), and she has also held leadership roles in the Society for General Internal Medicine (SGIM), Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine (AAIM), and the Idaho Medical Association (IMA). Dr. Hagman gives multiple regional and national presentations each year and is involved in emceeing ACP “Doctor’s Dilemma” Jeopardy-style contests at the state and national level.

Dr. Hagman lives in Boise with her wife of over 20 years. In her spare time, she enjoys being with family, participating in church activities, and reading a good book.

Andrea Christopher, MD, MPH, FACP

Andrea ChristopherDr. Christopher (she/her) is a general internist and medical educator at the Boise Veterans Affairs Medical Center. She serves as Associate Program Director for the University of Washington (UW) Boise Internal Medicine Residency, as well as Stern Regional Faculty Educator and Clerkship Site Director for the UW School of Medicine.

Dr. Christopher graduated from the University of Washington School of Medicine, with a clinical focus on Global Health. She trained at the University of Washington Internal Medicine Residency, serving as Chief Medical Resident for the newly formed UW Boise Internal Medicine Residency. She went on to complete General Internal Medicine Fellowship at Harvard Medical School, with a focus on disparities in access to healthcare. During this time, she completed a master of public health degree at the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health.

Dr. Christopher’s passion for health equity motivates her interests in medical education and clinical practice. She works to translate her interest in health disparities into teaching physician trainees how health policy and the social determinants of health impact clinical care of patients.

Michael Krug

Dr. Schackmann grew up in Salt Lake City, UT. She attended Stanford University where she served as the student manager for the Stanford Band before graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Biological Sciences, a minor in Dance, and a Masters in Science in Biology. She returned home to Salt Lake City to attend the University of Utah School of Medicine for medical school, then completed her internal medicine residency at the University of Washington IM program in Seattle, WA. She moved to Boise for a Chief Resident year with the UW Boise IM program.

After her chief year, Dr. Schackmann stayed at the Boise VA to work as an academic hospitalist. She served as Core Faculty for the Boise IM program for 5 years before becoming an Associate Program Director in 2025. In addition to her inpatient teaching work, she also works in hepatology clinic and served as the Medical Director for the Hospital Medicine Service from 2020-2025. Beyond the VA, she has been heavily invested in regional SGIM leadership, including co-chairing the 2022 NW/CA Regional Meeting and serving as NW Regional President from 2023-2024.

She is a passionate medical educator who finds joy in working with students and residents on inpatient wards.  She also enjoys teaching fully trained physicians as a member of the core faculty for the UW CLIME Clinical Teaching Certificate program. She was the winner of the University of Washington Boise IM Residency Program’s Tina Juul Dam Teacher of the Year Award in 2022, the Idaho WWAMI Excellence in Teaching Award in 2023, and the Joyce Wipf Rising Star Award from the University of Washington in 2025.

Outside of work, Dr. Schackmann enjoys taking advantage of the Boise’s tremendous outdoor access, including trail running, mountain biking, hiking, camping, and skiing. She attempts to garden, but has had the most success with flowers rather than vegetables, and she much more successfully cultivates a rich community of friends across the phases of her life and the country.
