Overview

Starting in July 2011, our residency became a second Internal Medicine residency under the University of Washington (UW) umbrella. We are separate from the UW Seattle Residency.

Located in Boise, ID, we have training sites at all three of the major Boise hospitals (Boise Veterans Affairs Medical Center, St. Luke's Regional Medical Center, and Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center) and at office-based practices in Boise and other cities throughout Idaho. Additionally, residents are able to choose elective rotations in Seattle, WA, during the PGY2 and PGY3 years.

For Academic Year 2024-2025, we will be recruiting four PGY1s for the Preliminary track of our program, and eleven PGY1s for the Categorical track (15 positions total).

Although the bulk of our residency activities are accomplished in Boise, ID, some administrative tasks (e.g. payroll, benefits, malpractice insurance) for our program are handled through the University of Washington Graduate Medical Education office in Seattle, WA.

Applications

Applications for the 2024-2025 Academic Year will be accepted only through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) starting September 2023.

We will send interview invitations in a rolling manner beginning October 2023. Please apply no later than November 1, 2023, to ensure we have sufficient time to consider your application thoroughly. We anticipate sending the last interview invitations by November 6, 2023.

All intern positions will be filled through the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP).

Interviews

We will interview applicants from beginning October 2023 through December 2023.

All Applicants

We have no specific USMLE or COMLEX score cutoff. If you have ties to Idaho or to the Northwest or Mountain West region, please be sure to include them in your application.

Our program director and selection committee will consider your entire application, regardless of where you attended medical school.

Externships and Observerships

Unfortunately, for those interested in an externship or observership, current Veteran’s Affairs (VA) policy precludes us from being able to offer any externships or observerships to anyone who is not currently enrolled in a program directly affiliated with the VA.
