Overview
There are two continuity clinic sites at UW Boise: the Silver Team Clinic and St. Luke's Internal Medicine Clinic.
All supervising attendings have training in internal medicine; some have further specialization and training in Women’s Health, Geriatrics, Psychiatry, Rheumatology, Substance Abuse, Medical Education and Health Services.
Our goal is to promote true team-based care, in which all members of the team function together to provide excellent care, continuity, and coverage even when the resident is away from the clinic on the wards or electives.
Silver Team Clinic
The Silver Team Clinic at the Boise VA has focused on residency training for over 30 years and was recently selected as one of five nationwide VA Centers of Excellence for Primary Care education and received a $5M grant over five years to enhance interdisciplinary training in a "medical home" model. While offering some recognition for our past achievements, this status also allows trainees the opportunity to practice in a learning environment that emphasizes the principles of the Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH). Using the VA version of PCMH known as “Patient Aligned Care Teams,” residents practice in a clinic alongside pharmacy, psychology, nursing and nurse practitioner trainees, as well as supervising attending physicians and staff. Working as part of a “teamlet” that includes one registered nurse manager, one medical assistant (or licensed practicing nurse), and one administrative assistant, residents are able to learn team-based care in an ambulatory setting.
St. Luke's Boise Regional Medical Center
St. Luke's Boise Regional Medical Center was originally built in 1902 by Rt. Rev James B. Funsten, who was the Bishop of the Episcopal Church of Idaho. The original St. Luke's Hospital was a cottage with six beds inside. Now St. Luke's Regional Medical Center is now Idaho's largest hospital treating about 325,000 per year. St Luke’s Internal Medicine (SLIM) is a cornerstone in the community for providing comprehensive outpatient primary care to the rapidly growing population in the greater Boise area. We care for over 12,000 patients ranging in age from 18 – 100+ years old, some of whom have been with the SLIM since the beginning and others who are just arriving. Our goal at St. Luke’s is supporting patients’ overall well-being and long-term health. We offer routine and preventative health checks, diagnosis and treatment of acute issues, and management of chronic health conditions. SLIM Park Place is a beautiful clinic located in Southeast Boise. Park Place is the largest internal medicine clinic in the St. Luke’s Health system and is home to 13 physicians, 7 advance practice providers, and more than 30 support staff.
